EDF is helping former sex workers transition to safe employment through Skills training and Tailoring & Design education.

The participants are trained in the definition of tailoring, the process of creating a complete garment and how to use the sewing machine and its maintenance. The beneficiaries participated and completed the sewing, cutting and designing of the following-: Infant dress, Basic skirt, Straight dress & Half slips, Long & short pants, Casual shirts, Aprons, and a Ladies suit.

Tailoring

Sewing and tailoring are taught in a ” learn by doing” hands on training style to maximize the skill retention.

Tailoring_class2The program has been expanded to include interested women from the local communities and is part of our Women’s retraining and rehabilitation project. 

Self-esteem is built as they see the products of their design work.

At graduation the participants have a need for their own sewing machines to allow them to begin their own businesses, so EDF is always trying to fulfill the need for sewing machines.
